Legal Requirements stipulate that vehicles or components must be clearly identified by means of a tamper-proof identification number (VIN). This is achieved by locally displacing the material at a defined position on the vehicle, component or workpiece. 

We offer two different processes for VIN-Marking and serial number application (by laser engraving or scribing), tailored to your needs. With both variants, you benefit from a high degree of automation an efficient integration into your line production.

Integration Lasers for reliable deep engraving

Laser engraving offers you a modern alternative to conventional needle embossing and scribing processes for VIN-Marking. The advantage is reliable laser engraving and other markings on a wide variety of metals and materials. Even glass is among the materials that can be marked for VIN-Marking. 

Non-contact laser engraving does not require the component to be fixed in place, thus avoiding scrateches or damage. There is no risk of the engraving smudging, which avoids costly setup times and process corrections which ultimately increases your productivity.

Application Technology for VIN-Marking

See for yourself! Our laser application head ensures safe and fast VIN-Marking. Laser engraving is performed without contacting the components, which reduces costly setup times. 

The respective serial numbers or the content of the marking can be changed quickly and easily, which increases your flexibility in production.


System Technology Scribing

A conventional method for the unique and tamper-proof marking of components and vehicles is engraving. Our IMS (Independent Marking System) product group provides you with the system technology you need for VIN-Marking. This allows us to offer maximum flexibility for VIN-Marking in terms of text, embossing depth, font height and font width. 

The modular system gives you a high degree of flexibility in terms of areas of application and changes to manufacturing process concepts. These range from manual workstations and workship solutions to integration into fully automated systems.  

Design and functionality for VIN-Marking with engraving tools

IMS applicators are designed for maximum precision, repeat accuracy and high marking speeds. Thanks to their design and inline height adjustment, they can also be used on uneven or curved surfaces without deviating from the required penetration depth for VIN-Marking. 

Thanks to the diamond tip and a wide range of extensions, the needle markers can be flexibly adapted to the respective application. The engraving depth and shape depend on the material hardness of the component to be marked, the shape of the diamond needle and the set of pneuamtic pressure.

Quality monitoring and documentation are also essential to ensure high-quality VIN-Marking. Various modules are available for this purpose, which can be used individually or in combination:
